PROF. EVELYN KORKOR ANSAH

prof evelyn korkor ansah bio 1489058821Professor Evelyn Korkor Ansah is the Director of the Centre for Malaria Research, University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ghana. She is a Public Health Physician, an Epidemiologist, a fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Fellow.

Professor Ansah has served and continues serve at global and national levels. She is currently a member of the Malaria Policy Advisory Group (MPAG) of the World Health Organization (WHO), providing independent, strategic advice to WHO on all technical areas relating to malaria control and elimination and the Independent Evaluation Panel (IEP) of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Professor Ansah was Vice Chair of the Global Fund’s Technical Review Panel (TRP) to combat HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria from 2014-2018. She was also a member of the Malaria Elimination Oversight Committee (MEOC) of the WHO, the Technical Evaluation Reference Group (TERG) of the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS and Malaria, and the Bellagio Academic Selection Panel of the Rockefeller Foundation. She recently co-chaired the workstream on Service Delivery for Malaria as part of a year-long global consultation on “Rethinking Malaria in the Context of Covid 19” – a collaborative effort between Harvard University and WHO, and has been faculty on Harvard University’s Flagship Malaria Science of Eradication Course since 2021.

She has additionally served and continues to serve on various global technical committees including as Co-chair of Technical Consultation on Urban Malaria, member of a Technical Committee to advise the WHO Director-General on Malaria Vaccine Supply, Expert Review Group on Guidelines for Malaria Elimination, Technical Consultation on Preferred Product Characteristics of Medicines for Malaria Chemoprevention among others. Prior to this, she was a member of the Steering Committee of the ACT Consortium (involving over 15 institutions in several countries) and the Malaria Capacity Development Consortium.

On the National front, she has contributed to several malaria control and surveillance guidelines as well as policy documents of the Ghana Health Service in a variety of roles, her most recent being Chair of National Review of Malaria Case Management Guidelines; Member of the National Committee for Review of Antimalarial Drug Policy; and Chair of the National Technical Working Group for Malaria Case Management. Additionally, she provided support to the National Malaria Control Programme team in the development of Ghana’s most recent grant applications to the Global Fund for Malaria and COVID-19 Response Mechanism (2020-2022).

Professor Ansah has worked at all levels of Ghana’s health system in both clinical and public health roles for over 25 years. In her clinical roles she worked at the Ridge Regional Hospital and the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital, Ghana’s Premier Teaching Hospital. Her Public Health roles in Ghana Health Service spanned a period of 15 years. In her role as District Director of Health Services, she won several awards with her team as a District Health Leader. Prior to joining academia, Professor Ansah was Deputy Director responsible for Research at the Research & Development Division of the Ghana Health Service.

As the Deputy Director responsible for research at the National Level she spearheaded the development of Ghana Health Service Research Agenda for the period 2015-2019 and also initiated research capacity building for health professionals through a Continuous Professional Development Programme.

Professor Ansah contributes to capacity building of the next generation of Public Health Professionals as an adjunct lecturer at the Ghana College of Physicians & Surgeons, the Ghana Institute of Management & Public Administration (GIMPA) and the School of Public Health (University of Ghana). She has over the course of her career supervised several PhD and Masters students both locally and internationally.

Evelyn’s key research interests are malaria case management, diagnostics, health systems, maternal health and capacity building for health research. To this end, she has conducted a number of multi-country and local studies including clinical trials and health systems research. She is a reviewer for several peer-reviewed Journals and the Global Health Systems Conference and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals to her credit.
