Socio-cultural factors influencing knowledge, attitudes and acceptance of malaria interventions among pregnant women in Ghana
General Overview / Background to the Study
As part of the MARCAD Project two post-doctoral candidates were awarded grants to conduct studies on malaria. Matilda Aberese-Ako was awarded one of the postdoctoral grants to carry out social science research in malaria in pregnancy.
Aim of the Study
To explore and understand behavioural and attitudinal influences on acceptance of malaria interventions among pregnant women in Ghana and Sub Saharan Africa.
Methods
The study conducted two years ethnographic research in the Ashanti and Volta regions of Ghana.
How far with the project or what has been done i.e if completed or not
The study found that multiple level factors influence women’s access to malaria in pregnancy interventions such as health system, individual, socio-cultural and environmental. Published works and web links are:
