OBJECTIVE:

The UHAS Research Conference organizing team recognizes the importance of offering opportunities to graduate students and early career researchers to participate in the conference by providing conference registration waivers and/or travel awards. This award will afford graduate students who have their abstracts accepted but have genuine difficulties in paying the conference registration fees the opportunity to participate. Additionally, registered participants who do not live in Ho can also get a travel grant to facilitate their travel to Ho for the conference.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEE WAIVER

• Eligibility For Conference Registration Fee Waiver:

To be considered for the conference registration waiver, you must:

1. Be a registered graduate student at the University of Health and Allied Sciences

2. Have submitted an abstract for a presentation of a paper or poster at the UHAS Research Conference.

3. Offers for registration waiver will only be made subject to receiving confirmation that an abstract has been accepted either for poster or oral presentation.

• How to Apply for Conference Registration Fee waiver

To apply for the conference registration fee waiver, send the following documents as 1 pdf file to [email protected] ;

1. A cover letter (maximum of 2 pages) providing motivation for your request for registration waiver. Your letter must clearly justify why you need this waiver to be able to participate in the conference and how participation in the conference will be beneficial to you as a student and to your career

2. Evidence of graduate studentship at UHAS (Student’ ID card or Confirmation of Student’s registration)

3. Evidence of submission/acceptance of abstract for the UHAS Research Conference

TRAVEL AWARD

• Eligibility for Travel Awards:

This award is to facilitate travel for conference participants from Accra to Ho and from Ho back to Accra. Conference organisers will provide a shuttle to a maximum of 30 participants to travel from Accra to Ho to participate in the conference.

To be considered for the travel awards, applicants must have:

1. Offers for travel awards will only be made subject to receiving confirmation that an abstract has been accepted either for poster or oral presentation.

2. Registered for the UHAS research conference

3. Applicants who have received registration waiver are eligible for travel awards

• How to Apply for a Travel Award

To apply for a travel award, send the following documents as 1 pdf file to [email protected];

1. A cover letter (maximum of 2 pages) providing motivation for your request for travel award. Your letter must clearly justify why the travel award is necessary for your participation in the conference and its relevance to your academic and/or professional development

2. Evidence of acceptance of abstract for the UHAS Research Conference for poster or oral presentation

CONDITIONS OF AWARD:

• Successful candidates will be required to provide a one-page report on their experience at the UHAS Research Conference within two weeks of returning. Reports must be sent to [email protected]  

  • Awardees are responsible for their own accommodation and subsistence arrangements

  • Awardees travel at their own risk and UHAS Research Conference or the University of Health and Allied Sciences will not be liable for any illness, medical or other emergencies, misadventure, natural disaster events, civil unrest or similar. 

ASSESSMENT PROCESS:

The UHAS Research Conference Registration Fee Waiver and Travel Awards will be assessed by a sub-committee of the organizing team. All applicants will be notified via email of the outcome of their application. There will be no appeals process.
